Jack Hamm, who was born in Detroit, Michigan in 1910, was an artist and author whose works are renowned for depicting Biblical stories. Having been educated in The Detroit Institute of Arts and The Art Students League of New York, Hammer started off as a commercial illustrator before going forward to specialize in religious art. His drawings were known for their clear, simple compositions alongside a strong propensity towards storytelling. "Drawing Board", the popular collection edited by Harper & Brothers, contained his work which also featured in many notable magazines and books. When Hammer sadly died in 1987 his legacy continued on.
